Teach Children About Trash
Attention Moms, Dads, Grandparents and kids! The increase in garbage is getting out of control. We need to help the planet by teaching our children about garbage! So, read this article to learn more and take the garbage challenge.
Buy Earth Friendly Toys
Minimize the amount of toys with batteries or power cords. Children can have just as much fun playing with classic wooden toys which also allow them to use their imaginations.

Laundry
While they’re plugged in, many of your electrical appliances draw a small current even when they’re turned off. One way to save electricity is to place your washer and dryer on a surge protector. The washer and dryer will only use power when your surge protector is turned on. So, all you have to do is to make sure the surge protector is off between loads. This is a cheap and easy way to go green and save some money at the same time.
If you want to avoid using Laundry Soap with harsh chemical, then try making your own. It is very simple and inexpensive! Let the
frugalmoma show you how. She offers excellent instructions and a video. Good Luck!
Buy High Efficiency Appliances
These units are a bit more expensive but they will pay off over time. They can save you money on water, electricity, and your gas bill.
You can purchase high efficiency washers, dryers, refrigerators, air conditioners, furnaces and more.
Shopping
You can bring your own shopping bags or reusable tote bags. Always keep spare shopping bags in the car so when you arrive at the store, you will be all ready to bring your groceries home with less waste.

Kitchen Tips
Fill a picture of water and keep in it the refrigerator. Then, when you want a cold drink, you don’t need to waste water by running it in the tap until it gets cold.
If you have an electric or gas range, turn off the oven or burners near the end of your cooking time so you waste less gas or electricity. (I don’t recommend this, however, with cakes or bakery items that are temperature sensitive.)
Buy your food items in bulk. By doing this, you will find yourself making fewer trips to the store. Also, by minimizing the amount of items that you purchase that are packaged individually for resale, you will be throwing away less of the packaging material.
Start your own garden to grow some of your own food. You can grow fruit, vegetables, or even your own herb garden. That way, you will minimize the amount of containers and trash from the store where you bought vegetables, you will save money, and you will get the chance to enjoy tastier vegetables.
Use sports bottles instead of bottled water. In my family, we each have our own favorite sport bottles that we fill with water and then wash and reuse when we’re done with them. We have not only saved money by not buying bottled water, we have also minimized the amount of trash going into the land fill.
Have your children bring their lunch to school in a reusable lunch box. Pack the sandwich in a container instead of a plastic bag. This way your children will throw away less garbage. More Tips on Going Green
Unplug any unused electronic appliances. Even when turned off, if they are still plugged in they generally use 60% of the power that they would consume if they were turned on. By unplugging them, you will not only save money but help save the planet. If you don’t want to unplug them, plug them into a surge protector and use it to turn your appliances on and off.
Check into the Smart Strip Power Strip. It offers great features that make it even more efficient than your average power strip. This, in turn, means using less electricity than if your items are plugged into a regular power strip. Plus, the smart power strip still protects your items from the lightning generate in storms. As a result you will be saving yourself money and helping to save the earth.
