When I was a child, I personally remember not enjoying reading very much and having a hard time finding a good book that would keep my interest. Even now, it is hard to hold my attention. But still, as long as a book is interesting I am in.
So, I would love to share with you some great ways to encourage your children to read. If they do not like reading or are having a hard time, don’t give up!
1. Find interactive books at your children’s level (for example: stencil books, jigsaw, art, stickers and more.)
2. Turn off the TV so it is not even an option except for at a certain time of the day.
3. Fill your house with lots of books. Have a basket of books in every room of your house.
4. Join a book club. If you children are young, make it a parent child book club. It can be a book the parents read to the kids. Then, when they’re done, let everyone talk about the books.
5. Read to your children even if they are older.
6. Buy magazines
7. Buy lots of books. It is important for your children to have ownership of books.
8. See a children’s play about your favorite book.
9. Have an art project to go with the story.
10. Research more information about a topic in the book using the Internet. Usborne Books offers quicklinks in its collection of internet linked books. This makes it easy for your child to learn more about a subject while being on safe websites. Plus, he or she is reading even more!
If you and your family love books as much as we do, I would highly recommend becoming an Usborne Books Consultant. It is a great way to get a discount on the books we need to make our children and make a little extra money at the same time! Personally, I think this is the best job! I get to spread the love for reading to kids. Yeah!
