Children's Healthy Snacks!

Are you always looking for healthy snacks for your children? I am. Yes, I do let my children have some sugar, but I try to teach them to limit it and have it in moderation. My husband always tells me, “Everything in moderation!”

I am always looking for good snacks to take on outings. I am also trying to limit the amount of foods we eat which contain trans fats. So, I try to avoid those products but if we have some it is okay. I just don’t want them to be a staple in our diets.

I have broken my list of snacks into several categories. Not all may be super nutritious, but I was looking for snacks that are lower in sugar and not just junk (like sugar-filled fruit chews)!

To keep snack time nutritious, we use this opportunity to squeeze in servings of fruit, vegetables and whole grains.

Here are several foods that we have decided to eat in between meals:

Fruit and Veggie Snacks
Spinach Dip with pita bread
Carrots (or any veggies) with dip
Apples and peanut butter
Bananas
Ants in a log (celery with peanut butter and Raisins)
Raisins or Craisins
Pears
Dried Fruit

Protein and Dairy Snacks
Cheese sticks
Humus with pita
Yogurt (We try to use plain yogurt and add our own fruit and wheat germ. It is more fun to call wheat germ sprinkles.)
Pudding
Nuts
Granola

Chip and dip like Snacks
Salsa with corn chips
Guacamole with corn chips
Pretzels
Veggies Booties
Make your own Chex mix

Snacks with Carbohydrates
Bagels
Rice cakes with cream cheese or peanut butter
Muffins

Food for on the go:
Luna Bars

If you would like to share your ideas with me, I would love to hear them and add them to our list.
