I love reading, and I am always looking for ways to make reading fun and exciting for my children. My girls and I love reading our collection of Usborne Books!
I’d like to share our list with you of ways to make reading fun and exciting. I’ll start with ideas for younger children (since my girls are only 2 and 4) and then progress to ideas for older children, because several of the Usborne books, can easily be a source of ideas for making reading fun for older children too!!!
Here are my ideas, suggestions, and picks of my favorite books for making reading fun:
There is a Mouse in the House makes reading fun!
My girls love helping the mouse move through the slots in each page to reach the cheese. This story helps teach them to read the story from top to bottom and left to right.
Reading is exciting with Usborne 1001 Things to Spot series.
Our second pick for reading fun is 1001 Things to Spot series! The series includes searches for animals, fish, dinosaurs and many other subjects. We can sit and read each of these books and look for the items on the pages.
I love reading these books with my children. They not only fun but educational too. The books teaches them to count and to concentrate as they search for the different items. It makes a great early reader for young children.
For older children I would highly recommend the Great Search Series. Usborne offers over 10 different titles to choose from in this series. The Great Animal Search won Dr. Toy’s 100 Best Children’s Products Award in 1996.
First Picture Action Rhymes makes movement and reading fun.
My third choice for making reading exciting, is the First Picture Action Rhymes. My girls and I love singing along to our favorite action rhymes and doing the fingerplays and movements that go with the songs!
Usborne Touch and Feel Books makes reading fun!
The fourth book we’ve chosen for our family’s our fun books list is the Usborne Touch and Feel books. We are big fans of touching and reading! It helps hold the attention of my busy two year old as we read!
Usborne Sticker Stories makes playing and reading fun!
The fifth series of books we award for making reading exciting was chosen by a good friend of ours. The award goes to the Usborne Sticker Book collection. (We have not purchased this book yet, but I am sure we will soon.)
Usborne Books offers 7 different titles in this series. You can even place the stickers in a story to make it a rebus story on the bottom of the page. I can’t wait to order a few! These books make an excellent first reader!
Usborne I Can Draw Series combines fun with reading and drawing!
This simple text incorporates reading with art. My children have enjoyed this so much, they don’t even realized that they are having reading!
This darling series is priced as low as $4.99 in paperback and teaches children how to draw people and animals, as well as how to cut and paste. It is an excellent book for children ages 3 and up.
Make Reading Fun with Usborne Cookbooks and Science Experiments!
Reading is always fun and exciting when you are going to make something. Check out Usborne’s darling cookbooks and science experiment books. I am sure you and your child will have fun reading the directions to make your meal or to do your science experiment.
Usborne Books with CD’s makes reading exciting!
I love reading to my children but it is also fun to hear someone else read the story! We have thoroughly enjoyed listening to First Picture Fairytales on CD. The stories really come to life with the music and sound effects as they are read.
